Ordinal Numerals
Ordinal numerals have three genders, characterized by adjectival endings.

Remarks:
(a) The numerals ending in -ой (второй, шестой, седьмой, восьмой, сороковой and their compounds), are stressed on the ending.
(b) Третий (сорок третий, etc.) has the soft ending -ий.
(c) In compound numerals, only the last numeral is an ordinal.

(d) Ordinal numerals may occur in the plural.

The first lessons are the hardest. |

I remember well the twenties (1920s). |
Declension of Ordinal Numerals
Ordinal numerals (except третий) are declined like hard adjectives.

In compound numerals, only the ordinal (the last member) is declined.
